Reviewing the 7 course vegetarian degustation

Yellow is an elegant vegetarian restaurant, it’s degustation only on Saturdays and with any excuse to eat all the food Ash makes a booking.

As a meat-eater I admire how creative the chefs are with purely plant ingredients. I cannot help but find myself expecting rich umami-something from the mains. It’s what I’m used to, what you get here instead are dishes like Kohlrabi, enoki mushroom, vegetable broth that are light on the palate, tasting of Spring-time and varying textures to keep you interested like in Celeriac, sesame, shark fin melon - the melon pulled into strands and twirled onto a creamy celeriac sauce.

Leading into sweets is the colourful Coconut sorbet, fermented blueberries, watermelon that cleansed our palates for the showstopper dish. Pumpkin ice cream, licorice, kumquat is something else. There is something about the savoury sweet duality of pumpkin and licorice that worked incredibly well together. Finished with a sticky sweet citrusy kumquat syrup and I think you’ve found your new go to flavour for weekend hotcakes.
