About: Spicer for Tapas

Chef Jose, manager Jacques and dessert queen Sino are the tight-knit team behind the long running About Spicer cafe. Already open for breakfast and lunch, the crew decided it was time to bring some night life to Woollahra with some tapas and plenty of cocktails.

MsBrulee dined as guests. Opinions however are my own.

Toasted bread w/ Hummus and guacamole

Casanova – aperol, cinzano extra dry, strawberry, lime $12

Casanova is sweet and fruity, like sipping summer in a glass.

Espresso martini – espresso shot, kahlua, vodka, home-made nut mylk $12

This is one smooth and silky coffee cocktail, home-made nut mylk is a blend of activated almonds and brazil nuts, the high fat content also makes it easier for baristas to froth.

Bloody Mary w/ trio of sliders $22

Pictured here is an all-in-one meal and drink – no need to deliberate on what to begin with, the Bloody Mary with sliders stacked on top has it all.

Stuffed zucchini flowers w/ goats cheese $14.50

Zucchini flowers stuffed with goats cheese, deep fried until golden brown and crisp.

Fried halloumi w/ walnuts, pomegranate molasses $8

Squeaky halloumi slices have been fried and tossed in sweet, tangy pomegranate molasses and chopped walnuts.

Our waitress Sina recommends the Rose – a popular choice of drink to go with their tapas.

Prawn cocktail w/ smashed avocado, sour cream, dill dressing $18.50

Fat, plump prawns smothered in plenty of sour cream and cubed avocado – the dressing and grape tomatoes provide sourness and reprieve in this otherwise heavy dish. The serving size is much larger than your typical tapas so there’s all the more to share with.

Kentucky bourbon meatballs w/ beef, bourbon, bbq sauce $18.50

Beef meatballs glazed in a really sweet BBQ sauce

Chickpea socca stack w/ hummus, pumpkin, eggplant, capsicum $14.50

Socca, chickpea pancakes like mini crisp bread are sandwiched between layers of hummus, roasted eggplant and pumpkin, was presented well too.

Nutella cookies, banana cheesecake ice cream sandwiches, kahlua foam $9

The texture of the banana cheesecake was a little icy but still decadent to eat, kahlua foam is whipped cream flavoured with kahlua – altogether a nice sweet touch to end the meal with.

I can give you so many reasons to visit About Spicer for dinner, service truly is lovely as I observed with other tables, not just ours, cocktails are potent and tapas are delicious and fun.
