If you’re going to refuel on omega 3s might as well make it at Salmon & Bear. Rest assured, no bears to be found.
Mark Jensen (Red Lantern and Pork’d) Joel Katz (ex Seagrass Group) and Joe Ward combine forces to bring us sustainable fish in an Alaskan-themed setting.
Lots of the menu items are cooked in a pricy Mibrasa oven imported from Spain. It’s meant to impart a campfire smokiness to what’s been cooked. A great side to start with is the sweet, juicy, buttery corn with a hint of that Mibrasa oven smokiness.

The crispy fish and crispy prawn taco fillings have been coated in batter, deep fried and dressed with spicy creamy sriracha mayonnaise. The sticky soy glazed salmon is a standout for me as it’s the most flavourful.
Deep fried crunchy salt and pepper calamari and a little bit of heat from chilli are some fun finger food.
Salmon bearger smoked and fresh salmon patty with cos lettuce, tomato, pickles, salsa verde and aioli $18
The salmon bearger provides a thick moist salmon and vegetable patty, somehow fish patties have a way of being filling yet not heavy. Served with a side of fat crinkle cut sweet potato fries.
Just simply grilled salmon in its unadulterated form with a gorgeous char on the skin really showcases the freshness and respect S&B have for produce.
Poke – Hawaiin style sushi salad – tuna $24
Raw cubed tuna in a chilli and lemongrass dressing served with kimchi and seawed salad on coconut rice sprinkled with deep fried shallots and seaweed.
Bear – chocolate gelato cookie sandwich $7
Salmon – strawberry gelato paddle pop dipped in white chocolate $7
Dessert is limited to two gelato creations by Messina – The Bear is a dark chocolate cookie sandwich, the cookies slightly bitter which makes it interesting as the chocolate gelato is so sweet and rich. On the other end of the dessert spectrum is the fruity Salmon, the strawberry gelato coated in white chocolate that actually has a slight chew.
