Review of the 8 course tasting menu at the soon to be defunct Rockpool

There’s more than 8 courses featured in this blog post as we also sampled a no shellfish menu. As announced, Neil Perry will close Rockpool Est. 1989  in July and open another restaurant, Eleven Bridge in early August.   With most tasting menus, they change according to what’s in season. There will be a surge in demand from people wanting to dine here following this news so you may find it quite difficult to secure a booking before the closing date in on July 31.

An entree we particularly enjoyed was the Enriched koshihikari rice with kingfish, peach, cucumber and celery was delicate and umami rich.

One dish wasn’t received so well by our crew. I found the char siu sauce in the Chinese roasted pigeon with shiitake and leeks sickly sweet, char siu should definitely should not taste this sweet. After such a bomb of a main, the Blue Mountains wagyu softly grilled with wasabi and lime seemed like such an improvement in contrast.

Desserts were excellent, the bright Vacherin of pandan custard with lime granita and mango sorbet and Valhrona chocolate with macadamia, glazed fig, malt and peach leaf ice cream pleased the chocoholics. The petit fours also disappeared from the table in no time the Date tart original since 1984 maintains the original tart recipe from 1984 because it’s just that good.
