Fish Place, Surry Hills

Excellent smoked fish and a colourful variety of salads and sides. Order at the counter and if you’re eating in, move to the courtyard dining area, be aware that seating is limited and your options include a vintage ironing board and rusted stools. I’m not making it sound very appealing but I found it sets quite a casual vibe if that’s what you’re after. What matters is the fish on offer at great prices. Check out my review below:

Fish pie + two sides $13

A buttered mash potato topping, crispy on the edges and baby soft underneath  The pie was mostly potato inside with some flecks of a mild-tasting fish. I’m not complaining I just think you could get better value from another dish like say:

Hot smoked ocean trout fillet + side $13

All hail, the smoked trout fillet. It’s moist and oily, but not greasy, the good kind of natural fishy oiliness. For me, the portion is just enough but I could always eat more of this delicious fish. Yes, this is a very nice, light, healthy lunch.

I’ve been back twice already, once with the lovely Irene and had the smoked salmon fillet which was also outstanding. Make sure you try this place out for yourself!
