Brown Sugar is sure to satisfy – just don’t forget to save room for dessert.
The brunch and lunch menu at Brown Sugar is extensive and varied including burgers, salads, pastas, ribs, steak, sandwiches (phew) and poached eggs in just about any number of herbs and spices. I’d highly recommend visiting after 12pm, that way you have access to the all day brunch and the lunch options. Don’t get me wrong the breakfast menu sounds pretty attractive too but I just prefer eating later.
Asparagus & parmesan eggs poached eggs, truffle oil & toast with jamon serrano $22 we had ours with smoked salmon instead, which is no loss since parmesan mixed with poached egg yolk and truffle oil is an amazing thing itself.
A treat for the eyes and stomach is the Onion and mushroom bialy $18 piled high with herbed goats curd, poached eggs, salmon roe and curls of smoked salmon, finished with a healthy spoonful of lemon butter.
Those with an appetite for leafy greens would do well with a huge plate of the Miso eggplant & mushroom salad rocket, carrot, zucchini ribbons, broccolini, basil, sprouts & sesame seeds with added lemongrass cured tuna $19 I should add that the mountain of salad comes very well dressed.
Desserts will have you all ‘hubba hubba‘ - Listen to the sugar crust crack as you dip into the Chai spice creme brûlée with pear and lemon sorbet $14 or go all out with the Hazelnut chocolate fondant, burnt fig ice cream, port caramel $14 the fondant’s warm centre is heavy with chocolate and spills across the plate with ease. Added to that is a quenelle of fig ice cream and lashes of port caramel – absolutely divine.
Whatever you feel like you’ll find it at Brown Sugar.
